I apologize if I misuse any jargon beforehand.
Hello, I've just started college and I brought my 3DS along. I would like to connect my 3DS online because I will be getting Pokemon X (orY) and would like to battle and trade online. However after attempting to connect my 3DS online I ran into some problems and then I proceeded to my College's ITSS Website.
I go to the University of Minnesota Duluth and the website says its completely fine to use the University Wireless for online gaming, but that some devices are known to have problems. This is the exact text from the university website under the Devices with known issues connecting to or functioning properly on the UMD Network section (of the ITSS website)
- Nintendo 3DS - Does not successfully connect to our network, even when registered. We are unsure why. The older DSi models can connect successfully.
So Using the University's Wireless is out of the question
Also we are not allowed to have wireless routers so thats out of the question
The Nintendo Wi-Fi Network Adapter to me seems like a router (please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know alot about technology) so I can't use that
It seems to me my best (and perhaps only option) is to track down a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (I'm aware their discountinued) and then use Windows XP
Mode on my computer that runs Windows 7(its also a 32 bit Computer) so the Nintendo Wi-fi USB Connector will work. (I was told this would work)
So in Short
1-I want to connect my 3DS to the Internet
2-I have Four options
A-Use the Univerisity Wireless
B-Use a Wireless Router
C-Use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Network Adapter
D-Use the Nintendo Wi-FI USB Connector and Windows XP Mode to workaround the fact that it would normally not work on my Windows 7 Computer
3-However three of these four options are unacceptable
a-The ITSS has a problem making this work (Nintendo 3DS - Does not successfully connect to our network, even when registered. We are unsure why)
b-We're not allowed to have wireless routers
c-the Nintendo Wi-Fi Network Adapter is a router and therefore not allowed
Conclusion-Using the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector and a Windows 7 Computer running Windows XP Mode is the only method that will work
Now, my question is if there are any alternatives or is my reasoning correct. I would like to know before I try to find a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector.
